How We Operate:
We offer horse breeding short courses in our list of services aimed at assisting horse breeders world-wide. The full two and three-day short courses are held at some point between August and March during the “off” breeding season in the Northern hemisphere. Because we understand that most horse breeders have full time jobs outside their horse interests, we try to schedule our short courses on weekends and holidays. These courses are excellent for the experienced breeder, as well as the reproductive veterinarian looking for an update on the latest technologies and methods of breeding.
Don’t see horse breeding short courses that work for you, but need tuition soon?
Check out our one-on-one individual tuition program!
It might be just the program that’ll work for you – and if it’s not, we’ll make one that does!
An Overview of Our Equine Reproduction Short Courses
Using MS PowerPoint TM, incorporating slides, text and video, coupled with a wide variety of available products and equipment for you to view and handle in our equine reproduction short courses, we are able to provide dynamic and comprehensive presentations. Although the courses are easily understandable, they are intensive and cover all aspects of equine reproduction and breeding. They include study of the anatomy and physiology of both the mare and the stallion reproductive systems; management of mare and stallion for optimal breeding; the mare’s reproductive cycle and hormonal relationships; fertility evaluation; manipulation of the estrous cycle in the mare; techniques for live cover and artificial insemination of the mare; and the use of fresh, cooled, or frozen semen.
We discuss collection of semen from the stallion and the various methods, techniques, and products available for collection, evaluation and various aspects of semen analysis; preparation of semen for freezing, transport or on-farm use; identifying stallion or semen handling problems and trouble shooting them; and sexual behaviour of the stallion and how it can be modified.
The pregnant mare is discussed including the hormonal activity present during pregnancy; care of the pregnant mare, and identifying and dealing with common pregnancy problems. Needs of the foaling mare and her resulting foal are addressed. Determining IgG levels in neonates is discussed as well as proper supplementation. We also present an overview of some common foaling and neonatal problems. Please note that one thing not taught to non-veterinarians is rectal palpation or ultrasounding. We do however teach vaginal palpation of the cervix (which is the first step towards performing A.I.) and A.I., and we do teach other techniques for identifying suitable timing for breeding.

University Commentary on our Equine Reproduction Short Courses:
Our University of New Hampshire course host said:
“We have had very good feedback about the courses. The attendees have felt that the information is given in a complete and structured format that allows the subject matter to be clearly understood. There is enough interaction and question sessions for people to clarify what they are learning. We are looking forward to hosting more equine reproduction short courses by Equine-Reproduction.com at the University of New Hampshire.”

Our University of Arkansas course host said:
“What a super turn out! All the feedback has been very positive. Our “beginners” were able to keep up and our “experts” were given new information and money saving tips. In fact, I bet we will all save the fee several times over using the practical advice. We look forward to hosting another seminar next year!”
